Types of care

Who is in the room

Some problems belong to one person. Many belong to a relationship or a household. These are the formats I work in, and we can move between them when it makes sense.

Individual Therapy

One-to-one therapy for adults and teens in New Jersey who want to understand what is keeping them stuck and build a concrete way forward.

You might recognise

  • You feel flat, anxious, or not like yourself and cannot pinpoint why
  • You keep repeating the same patterns in work, love, or family
  • You are functioning on the outside and struggling underneath it
  • You want tools, not just a place to vent

How we work on it

We start with what you want to be different. From there we look honestly at the thoughts, habits, relationships, and history feeding the pattern — and we pick the smallest changes that actually move it.

Sessions are active. You can expect reflection, direct feedback, and something practical to carry into the week between us.

Methods I draw on

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
  • Narrative Therapy

Who it is for: Teens, adults, and older adults anywhere in New Jersey who want focused, goal-oriented individual therapy by telehealth.

Couples Therapy

Couples counseling in New Jersey for partners who keep having the same fight, have drifted apart, or are trying to rebuild trust.

You might recognise

  • The same argument on repeat, with a different subject each time
  • Distance, roommate dynamics, or a loss of emotional and physical closeness
  • Rebuilding after a betrayal, a health crisis, or a hard season
  • Big decisions you keep avoiding because they end in conflict

How we work on it

We slow the cycle down enough to see it: what each of you does when you feel unheard, and what each of you is actually asking for underneath it.

From there we build new ways to raise hard things — so conflict becomes information instead of damage. Both partners get airtime. Neither gets a verdict.

Methods I draw on

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Narrative Therapy

Who it is for: Partners at any stage — dating, engaged, married, or separating — who are both physically located in New Jersey during sessions.

Family Therapy

Family therapy in New Jersey for households navigating conflict, a struggling teen, life transitions, or the effects of illness and substance use.

You might recognise

  • Conflict that escalates faster than anyone intends
  • One family member is struggling and everyone is organised around it
  • Divorce, remarriage, a move, a loss, or a new diagnosis
  • Parents who disagree on how to respond and end up undercutting each other

How we work on it

Family work looks at structure: who talks to whom, where the boundaries sit, which roles people have quietly taken on. Small structural shifts often relieve pressure faster than asking one person to change.

We pair that with concrete behavioral strategies, so parents and caregivers leave with a plan they can actually run at home.

Methods I draw on

  • Structural Family Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Who it is for: Parents, caregivers, blended families, and adult family members who want to change how the household functions, not just how one person behaves.

Adolescent Therapy

Therapy for teenagers in New Jersey dealing with anxiety, low mood, school and social pressure, trauma, or big behavioural changes — with parents kept in the loop.

You might recognise

  • Withdrawal, irritability, or a sudden drop in grades or friendships
  • Anxiety about school, performance, social media, or what comes next
  • Sleep, appetite, or mood changes after a loss or a frightening event
  • A teen who will not talk to you but might talk to someone else

How we work on it

Teens get a space that is genuinely theirs — straight talk, no lecturing, and tools that respect their intelligence. The work is built around what they actually want to be different, not only what the adults around them have noticed.

Parents stay partners in the work. You will know what we are targeting and what to reinforce at home, within the limits of your teen’s confidentiality.

Methods I draw on

  • Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Structural Family Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy

Who it is for: Adolescents across New Jersey, with parent or guardian consent and involvement. This practice does not see younger children.

What I treat

Focus areas

Depression is my primary specialty. These are the other areas I work with most, and the approaches I use for each.

Depression Therapy

Depression is my primary specialty: structured, evidence-based therapy in New Jersey for people who feel heavy, numb, unmotivated, or disconnected from the life they used to enjoy.

You might recognise

  • Getting through the day takes everything you have
  • Things you used to enjoy feel like chores, or feel like nothing
  • Sleep, appetite, focus, and energy have all shifted
  • Harsh self-criticism that sounds like simple fact from the inside

How we work on it

Depression shrinks your world and then tells you that is just how things are. We interrupt that on two fronts: what you do — rebuilding activity, sleep, and connection in doses small enough to be possible — and what you believe about yourself while you do it.

Progress is tracked deliberately, because depression is very good at deleting the evidence of improvement. When something is working, I make sure you can see it.

Methods I draw on

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Narrative Therapy

Who it is for: Teens, adults, and older adults in New Jersey experiencing low mood, persistent depression, or depression alongside anxiety, grief, or a health condition.

Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety therapy in New Jersey for racing thoughts, constant worry, panic, social anxiety, and the exhausting work of managing everything in advance.

You might recognise

  • A mind that runs worst-case scenarios on a loop
  • Physical symptoms: chest tightness, nausea, a body that will not settle
  • Avoiding calls, plans, or opportunities to keep the anxiety down
  • Reassurance that helps for an hour and then wears off

How we work on it

Anxiety is maintained by avoidance and by the safety behaviours that feel like coping. We identify yours, then build tolerance for the situations you have been managing around — deliberately, at a pace you set.

Alongside that you learn skills to regulate a body already in alarm, so the work stays challenging without becoming overwhelming.

Methods I draw on

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Who it is for: Anyone in New Jersey living with generalised anxiety, panic, social anxiety, health anxiety, or performance and school-related anxiety.

OCD Therapy & ERP

OCD treatment in New Jersey using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) — the specialised, evidence-based approach developed for obsessive-compulsive disorder.

You might recognise

  • Intrusive thoughts that feel horrifying and completely unlike you
  • Rituals, checking, counting, washing, or mental reviewing
  • Seeking reassurance from people who love you, over and over
  • Hours lost to compulsions you know do not make logical sense

How we work on it

ERP works by changing your relationship to uncertainty rather than by resolving the doubt itself. Together we build a hierarchy, then practise facing triggers while gradually dropping the compulsion that usually follows.

It is demanding work, and it is collaborative. You are never pushed into an exposure you have not agreed to, and we build skills before we build challenge.

Methods I draw on

  • Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

Who it is for: Teens and adults in New Jersey with OCD, intrusive thoughts, or compulsive rituals — including people who have tried talk therapy that never targeted the compulsions.

Trauma & PTSD Therapy

Trauma therapy in New Jersey for single-incident trauma, childhood trauma carried into adulthood, and PTSD — paced so that you stay in control of what gets opened and when.

You might recognise

  • Flashbacks, nightmares, or being pulled back into a memory by a sound or a smell
  • Hypervigilance, startle, or never quite feeling safe
  • Numbness, dissociation, or watching your own life from behind glass
  • Beliefs formed in the event: it was my fault, I should have stopped it

How we work on it

Trauma work does not require reliving everything in detail. We begin with stability and regulation, then use structured approaches like Cognitive Processing Therapy to address the beliefs the trauma installed — the ones that keep the past governing the present.

You set the pace. Slowing down is always an option, and it is never a setback.

Methods I draw on

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
  • Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Who it is for: Teens, adults, and older adults in New Jersey processing abuse, assault, accidents, medical trauma, loss, or a childhood that was not safe.

Relationship Issues

Therapy in New Jersey for relationship patterns — with partners, family, friends, or colleagues — including boundaries, conflict, codependency, and repair after a breach of trust.

You might recognise

  • Saying yes when you mean no, then resenting it
  • Conflict that either explodes or gets buried, with nothing in between
  • Choosing the same kind of partner and reaching the same ending
  • Feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotional weather

How we work on it

We look at the template: what you learned relationships require, what you do to keep them safe, and what that costs you. Then we practise the specific conversations you have been avoiding.

This work can happen individually or with your partner present — whichever will actually shift the pattern.

Methods I draw on

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Narrative Therapy

Who it is for: Individuals or couples in New Jersey working on boundaries, communication, attachment patterns, or rebuilding trust.

Substance Use

Non-judgmental counseling in New Jersey for drinking, substance use, and the habits people use to cope — whether you want to cut back, stop, or simply think it through honestly.

You might recognise

  • Drinking or using more than you planned, more often than you planned
  • Promising yourself that this week will be different
  • Using to take the edge off anxiety, grief, pain, or memories
  • Other people have raised it, and you are not sure what you think

How we work on it

You do not have to arrive certain about what you want. Motivational Interviewing is built for exactly this: sorting out your own reasons without anyone pushing a verdict on you.

When you are ready to change something, we work on the triggers, the cravings, and the need the substance has been meeting — because that need does not disappear on its own.

Methods I draw on

  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Who it is for: Adults and older adolescents in New Jersey at any stage — considering change, actively cutting back, or maintaining recovery alongside another program.

Stress & Burnout

Stress and burnout therapy in New Jersey for people carrying too much for too long — at work, at home, or as the person everyone else depends on.

You might recognise

  • Running on adrenaline and crashing the moment you stop
  • Irritability, tension headaches, disrupted sleep, a short fuse
  • Work bleeding into evenings, weekends, and your relationships
  • Caregiving that has quietly replaced your entire life

How we work on it

First we separate what is genuinely yours to carry from what you have absorbed by default. Then we work on the two things that change stress in practice: what you take on, and what your nervous system does with what remains.

Expect real boundary language, recovery built into the week, and mindfulness skills that work without an hour of free time.

Methods I draw on

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Who it is for: Professionals, parents, caregivers, students, and anyone in New Jersey running close to empty.

Women's Issues

Therapy in New Jersey for women navigating identity, motherhood, career pressure, body image, life transitions, and the exhausting expectation of holding everything together.

You might recognise

  • Managing everyone else while your own needs wait indefinitely
  • Guilt attached to rest, ambition, anger, or wanting more
  • Transitions: postpartum, fertility, divorce, empty nest, perimenopause
  • A self that has been edited down to fit other people’s comfort

How we work on it

We name the pressures accurately — including the ones that are cultural rather than personal — and separate them from the story you have been telling about your own inadequacy.

The goal is not to cope better with an unsustainable load. It is to decide, deliberately, what you are actually willing to carry.

Methods I draw on

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Narrative Therapy

Who it is for: Women of any age in New Jersey working on identity, boundaries, relationships, and life transitions.

Identity & Self-Worth

A steady, affirming space in New Jersey to work out who you are — through questions of self-worth, purpose, culture, faith, sexuality, gender, and belonging.

You might recognise

  • A different version of yourself for every room you walk into
  • Achievement that never converts into feeling like enough
  • Questions about identity you have not said out loud anywhere
  • Feeling between worlds — cultures, communities, or life chapters

How we work on it

Identity work is not a diagnosis to solve. We look at the stories you inherited about who you are allowed to be, sort out which ones you actually endorse, and build a self-definition you are not constantly performing.

You set the terms. My role is to keep the space honest, curious, and free of judgment.

Methods I draw on

  • Narrative Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Who it is for: Teens and adults across New Jersey exploring identity, self-worth, purpose, or belonging.
